Catil appears as an eight-foot tall, hairless, black-skinned man wearing a blacksmith's apron and carrying a forge hammer. He is tacturn and almost never amused.
He is the strongest of the gods, the eldest of the Dalerain, and the son of Orod and the immortal giantess witch Angerboda. He was part of an active quartet of Dalerain including Sif, Uller, and Dis (who forsook his postion in the Dalerain to become an Envidier and remain in the Wyrld), in the earliest time of the world, but underwent a long exile and period of amnesia at Orod's hands, and subsequently avoids his father whenever possible He opposes his half-brother Ragavar, and eschews romances with other divinities, though he has dallied with Cheneitha and Teleri in ages past. In more recent times, he created a being known only as the Smith’s Wife, once a golem-like construction, and now a semi-divine, living woman.
Catil is in the process of rebuilding his faith and worshippers after his exile. He is worshipped by blacksmiths, wizardsmiths, spellcasters creating magical items, particularly sentient ones, intelligent magical items, craftsmen, and people seeking strength, either physical or mental. His priests are few in number but growing swiftly; the god of smiths and strength has much to offer the common people of the world.
