Madate most often takes the form of a young human with brown skin and black hair. He wears half-plate armor and carries a large shield and longsword. He also appears as a middle-aged clerk or merchant, usually bearing a set of coin scales and a miniature longsword. He answers questions put to him honestly and openly, but preferably without revealing his divine nature. Should his divinity by realized, he remains to answer one question before departing. In legend, the longsword is called Truth’s Razor.

The Lord of Equality is one of the youngest of the Dalerain, and many are still unfamiliar with his portfolio and the concepts he embodies. Dedicated to justice and equality, Madate has easy enemies among some of the most powerful deities, including the Feuding Goddess, the Crone Goddess, and the Lady of the Knife. The Night Lord has so far found him unworthy of notice. Madate has allies in Brigit and Ashara, however, and the relationship between the Dominar of Justice and the Oathtaker is particularly close. Priests of the two powers often seek each other’s aid when they cannot receive it from their own bretheren.

Madate is worshipped by those who would dispense justice, those who seek it, or those who value it. He is often prayed to by people looking to make a large purchase, that they not be taken advantage of. His priests are often martial in manner, actively seeking out areas of injustice and evil to purge through blood; others are sanctioned by a few kingdoms to act as judges or advocates in the countryside, though this practice is relatively rare. Priests of Madate are forbidden to swear allegiance to any power other than Madate, to make clear their dedication to justice.
