Roane
Result of a union between a human and a selkie (a fey being able to assume human and seal form), roane (ROW-an)are children of the sea and the land, able to partake in both but bound to neither.
Personality: Roane are happy to meet people and travel, enjoying the stimulation of new things and new situations. They enjoy music and art, giving expression to the deep tides of creativity that flow in them.
Sealkine are playful and enjoy joking and mild levity. Their upbringing in the boundless seas makes them uncomfortable in large and close-packed crowds, though they are very comfortable on a stage.
Physical Description: The offspring of selkies and humans are human in appearance. They may have a slightly thicker head of hair, stiff, whisker-like facial hair, or a small web between their fingers and toes, but such details are hard to notice without close observation.
Relations: Fey-blooded through their selkie parent, sealkine are welcome in elven company as well as human. Their ties to the ocean prevent many dealings with dwarves or gnomes, and they share local prejudices against half-orcs and humanoids (possibly colored by experiences with the aquatic relatives of these races).
Alignment: Roane are nearly always chaotic, as they love freedom and individuality far more than order or law. Most roane are good, but some come to value their own concerns over those of anyone else, and turn to evil in the search for self-gratification.
Roane Lands: Sealkine have no lands of their own, instead living on the seacoasts in human villages, or else in a community of selkies.
Religion: Roane worship Eial of the Watery Veil and Aghdo of the Deeps more than any other powers. Cheneitha, the Frost Maiden, is the enemy of the sealkine, both in a physical sense (ice and winter being no friend to selkies) and in a spiritual way (the Lady of Ice favors stagnation over growth, and entrappment over freedom).
Language: Roane speak Selkie and Common.
Names: Roane adopt human names when travelling on land. They have other names as a seal, but these are unpronouncable by most humans.
Adventurers: Sealkine love to travel and see the world. Many turn to adventuring as a way of providing income or excitement.
