Sarn
Rugged temperate mountains & alpine meadows/region
The fallen land of Sarn was once the richest kingdom east of the Torcell Seldoc. A realm of stony, infertile soil and marauding hobgoblins, the life of Sarn was underneath the the mountains, in the deep mines that seemed to spill gold, silver, and gems into the miners’s hands. In retrospect, the collapse of the kingdom was inevitable, as greed-driven nobles conspired with humanoid and giant mercenary tribes to assault the realm, until the defenders of Sarn simply wore out and were overrun. Once captured, the giants and goblins had no intentions of surrendering their rich prize, and the only reward the traitorous nobles found was death at the hands of their allies.
The heart of Sarn is still deep underground. Tunnels and mines lace through the mountains in an unending labyrinth, home to countless tribes of goblins, hobgoblins, and orcs. Treasure still flows from the mines, unearthed by the descendants of the humans and dwarves captured and forced into slavery by the invaders, but not a quarter of what was once regularly found. Goblins, giants, and other monsters stalk the barren valleys, each a home to some tribe or clan, or else held by the undying revenant of a treacherous noble or betrayed warrior, determined to avenge themselves on any living creature that dares invade the space they surrended in life, or couldn’t defend.
