Palanar appears as a rotund, elderly member of a respected guild, or a streetwise young boy. In either form, he will haggle and barter to divulge information or favors; those who do not participate learn nothing and gain nothing.

Palanar is one of the most powerful of the Ascended, those who gained their divinity not by their parentage (as with the Dalerain), but through hard work and skill. Many legends revolve around the Coinlord's acquisition of power through barters, exchanges, and deals, culminating with his acquiring the divine mantle of the lost god Deldius in exchange for certain powerful artifacts, a secret from Darghin's stronghold, and 17 pieces of purest gold (to this day, to say someone paid 17 gold for an item is to say they bought it for far less than it was worth).

Palanar is worshipped by merchants, rogues, and anyone involved in money or business. He is also favored by those looking to advance their position in life. His priests are liberal with spells and succor, provided one has enough cash. They are well known for their skills in haggling and dealing, but likewise have a reputation for fairness and honesty outside of business.
